Hot Outside? Ditch the soda; try these Ayurvedic Summer Quenchers

When it gets too hot outside, I start researching Summer thirst quenchers, which can be made at home, have a ton of benefits, and can be enjoyed by everyone!

These are some of the Summer Drinks I have been enjoying recently.

Why These Drinks Are Perfect for Summer:

  • Cooling Effects: All these drinks help balance excess heat (Pitta dosha), which tends to accumulate during the summer months.

  • Hydration: They are packed with hydrating ingredients like watermelon, cucumber, and coconut water, replenishing lost fluids and electrolytes.

  • Digestive Support: Summer heat can slow down digestion, but these drinks contain ingredients like mint, coriander, and black salt, which stimulate digestion and reduce bloating and discomfort.

  • Rich in Nutrients: These drinks are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health, boost immunity, and promote healthy skin.

These Ayurvedic drinks not only cool the body but also provide a balance of flavors, nutrients, and digestion-enhancing properties, making them ideal for summer wellness.

Try them; let me know your thoughts and experiences :)

Watermelon, Mint and Basil Juice:

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 cups of watermelon (seeded and chopped into chunks)

  • A handful of fresh mint leaves

  • A few fresh basil leaves (optional, for added herbiness)

  • Juice of 1 lime or lemon

  • 1 teaspoon honey or jaggery (optional)

  • A pinch of black salt or rock salt

  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Watermelon:

    • Remove the seeds from the watermelon and chop it into chunks.

  2. Blend the Juice:

    • Blend until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

  3. Strain (optional):

    • If you prefer a smoother juice, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Otherwise, leave it as is for a pulpy texture.

  4. Add Salt:

    • Add a pinch of black salt or rock salt to enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness.

  5. Serve:

    • Pour the juice into glasses, add ice cubes if desired, and garnish with a few extra mint or basil leaves for an herbal touch.

  • A handful of fresh mint leaves

  • 1-2 tablespoons of honey or jaggery (optional, depending on sweetness preference)

  • 1 cup of cold water or coconut water

  • A pinch of black salt or rock salt

  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pineapple:

    • Peel and core the pineapple. Cut the flesh into chunks, discarding the tough core and outer skin.

  2. Blend the Juice:

    • In a blender, add the pineapple chunks, fresh mint leaves, and cold water or coconut water.

    • Blend until smooth and the pineapple is fully juiced.

  3. Strain (optional):

    • If you prefer a smoother juice, you can strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. Otherwise, you can enjoy it with the pulp for extra fiber.

  4. Sweeten:

  5. Add Salt:

    • Add a pinch of black salt or rock salt to enhance the flavor and balance electrolytes.
