Anti-Inflammatory Golden Milk - Turmeric Magic!!

Golden Turmeric Milk - very popular nowadays in western countries, but has been a part of Ayurvedic traditions for the longest time :)

In this post, I will explain a simple recipe for preparing this tea and the various benefits.

A fun fact about this tea : In Okinawa, Japan, this tea has been a popular drink for its population. And, do you know? The people of Okinawa have one of the world's longest average life spans : 81.2 years

Numerous studies have proved that Turmeric has wide-ranging anti-inflammatory properties.


Here are 3 important science-based benefits of Turmeric Golden Milk:

- The important ingredients are chock-full of antioxidants. These antioxidants help in the functioning of cells, prevent cell damage and may also help in reducing the risk of infection & disease. Turmeric, ginger, black pepper & cinnamon have proven antioxidant abundance.

- May help to reduce inflammation and joint pain : The combination in the Golden Milk has powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. It may help prevent osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and reduce joint pain. It can reduce chronic inflammation too.

- Helps in digestion and improving metabolism - Turmeric and Ginger can help in maintaining proper digestion and keeping the metabolism of the body in good condition.

Here's the Golden Milk recipe I use regularly: Perfect for an evening drink just before bed.

This recipe is for 2 people; you can reduce it for one person.

  • Heat 2 cups light, unsweetened coconut milk (or almond or soymilk)

  • Add 1/2 tablespoon peeled, grated fresh ginger

  • Add 1 tablespoon peeled, grated fresh turmeric or 3/4 tsp of organic turmeric powder

  • Add 3-4 black peppercorns

  • 1-inch Indian Cinnamon stick

  • Heat all ingredients in a saucepan

  • Stir well. Bring to a simmer and simmer covered for 10 minutes.

  • Strain and sweeten to taste (if desired).
